Last week, I took my car in for servicing. The mechanic called and told me a few things needed to be done in addition to the service - new rear brakes, etc. etc. I ask how much it will all cost, and he says, $600. I say fine and authorize it. I go to pick up the car and am presented with a bill for $1,084. He meant $600 BEFORE the $500 in repairs he was suggesting. Ass.

Made me feel a lot better about accidentally dumping an entire Super Size Coke in the passenger side of the loaner car I'd gotten from the dealer.

Then last night, I'm going over to the boy's apartment to feed the cat, because he's away on business. I come to a short stop at a traffic light because the guy in front of me came to a short stop, and I hear the unmistakeable sound of brakes locking and a car skidding behind me. I look in the rearview just in time to watch a white Ford Taurus plow into the back of my car. I don't know if luck was on my side or what, but there is NO damage to the car. My shoulders and neck are hurting a little - I think I must have tensed up when I realized I was about to get hit, but otherwise, minimal damage. Thank god.

But seriously, what is it about this car getting hit in the butt? Last year, that old man backed into it in the parking lot at the train station, last night, I get a solid whomping at a stop light. I'm padding the bumper, that's all there is to it.
